Stringer is going to be huge. Stringer’s album“My Bad” starts strong and is consistently exceptional all the way through.

Stringer is going to be huge, they stand out among the ordinary. When mundane is the standard, Stringer rises above average expectations to become exceptional. Perhaps one of the best punk bands I’ve heard in years. Stringer brings everything great about late 80’s mid 90’s punk that helped shape a generation and brings it to new heights.  The track list is the right length, and nothing gets in your way of enjoying it. Swimming is my most favorite song on the album, the perfect camp fire punk song. It’s an excellent mellow ballad that anyone can listen to, and it’s relaxing on top of that. I’m also a fan of the song that follows, Dead Horse, it’s well constructed, and is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

The acoustics on the album are well recorded, nothing left out of place, and everything seems to fit. The whole album, from the Intro to Through The Walls and the rest of the tracks like Abergain and Flower Bomb give me hope for where the future of punk is going.  Perhaps the best part about “My Bad” as an album is that it starts strong with USA and Ghosts and ends strong with Termites…the album has consistency. Stringer is the shot in the arm this genre has needed, the rekindling of an idea. I hope they have more in store and am looking forward to it.

Shadygrove’s new album “In The Heart Of Scarlet Wood” is a love letter to the folk genre.

A love letter to the folk genre, “In The Heart Of Scarlet Wood” doesn’t do anything new but it has excellent harmonics, acoustics and it’s filled with emotion. What it does, it does very well. Lisy Stefanoni cements her vocals as top notch and true to herself. In an age of music largely void of anything interesting or passionate. “In The Heart Of Scarlet Wood” represents a return to simpler times that require some engagement from the listener. This album grows with time, it is indeed…Incredibly complex, with multiple layers opening new ways of picking up sound with each play through. Let The Candle Burn has an incredible breakdown and songs such as The Port Of Lisbon, Northern Lights, and This Is The Night really highlight the enchanting voice of Lisy Stefanoni. When I allowed myself to suspend my belief from this world, I fell in love with the world of Shadygrove. This is an album you should have on your radar when it releases April 6th.

Indian Rockstar Nitish Pires starts Golden Age of Rock in India.

Nitish Pires tops the standard for 2018 with “Am I Evil”. An album with alternative and hard rock influences, it aims to stay. Every song is tight, well recorded, interesting and cohesive. It’s a statement that says to the world that Indian rock should be taken seriously. Indeed, many great rock acts have been to India and recognize this but Nitish Pires might be one of, if not the first true Indian Rockstar of Alternative Rock. What Nitish accomplishes with “Am I Evil” is giving India a platform for India to set its sights on if they cultivate and respect the talent. About once a year I get an album that totally floors me, an album I can measure other records to. This album does that and more. Let’s examine Big Black Wings. It’s an excellent ballad. It starts off traditional, compositionally. You’ve heard the influences from it before. Sure, but then drums and a unique texture come in right after keeping you glued as Nitish enters with his incredible voice and owns it. A few seconds later, everything melds together as it should sound. What can be said about it? What’s amazing about this album? Uniquely Indian while pushing the boundaries of multiple genres…Yes, 110%. Consider me in total support of this piece and the beautiful movement that Nitish represents. Cultivate it, help it grow. Beyond the music, it indeed furthers rock as a whole and should stand on a world stage. I hope Nitish will be able to extend his influence and tour. Well done. All of India should be proud of this.

Ukrainian prog rock sensation Sleep In Heads aims to go global!

On The Air, out now!

A group for the new age out of Kyiv(Kiev), Sleep In Heads already have the finesse of a well worked canvas. Enchanting sound, with a calm, cool and heartwarming atmosphere. The new album is well recorded, close to the ear and immediate. This band has a theme, and they stick to the theme. So often new bands will have a track that sounds out of place. It’ll throw off the character of their group, or a tempo change that diminishes the quality of the rest of the song, sometimes even the album. Sleep In Heads recognize that complexity is often achieved through simplicity. This is excellent prog. Blue Fear is the standout song on the album, but it all fits, each song isn’t overdone, or done without confidence and held back. The whole album shines, get this group on tour. Show the world what Ukraine is capable of. As the album goes on you find yourself being drawn into the world they texture. A balanced battery, violin, guitar, bass, piano and the beautiful voice of Sonya who also writes the lyrics is like listening to poetry in sound. If you like prog, you might be shaking your head, then listen more, get involved with the world this band creates. This is their debut album, and in that feat, it’s an achievement of incredible proportions. Catch their new album, On The Air…now!
